Bill Belichick runs a tight ship. Since taking over as head coach of the New England Patriots before the 2000 season, he has created an atmosphere where no single player, no position, no unit, even no coach, is greater than the team. Belichick learned during his New York Giants' years that no player should be treated special regardless of his star status. He brought in players who understood his playing system and expectations to help guide the transition. Otis Brown and Bobby Hamilton came the 1st year and Anthony Pleasant and Bryan Cox the next year.
No lecture is given after being drafted to the Patriots on the "patriot Way". There is no playbook for this. It is learned through observation and enforced by Belichick daily.
No one is above being called out for making a mistake, but not all football players can handle this scrutiny before deciding to move on to another team. Belichick specifically seeks out football players who are unselfish by nature and who makes playing and winning a priority. These players find it more easy to obey the rules.Even Tom Brady buys into this. He is considered to be the most humble guy in the world and walks around like he's any other guy. Other players follow this lead.
This is the Patriots team that will be vying for their 4th Super Bowl win on February 3.
