I wanted to take a look at NFL Super Bowl history from 1986 to 1988 for no particular reason other than I was born during one of those years. For the NFL Super Bowl history buffs, this will be some extra knowledge to throw into the memory banks.
In 1986, the Chicago Bears faced the New England Patriots in the New Orleans Superdome. Chicago’s defensive end, Richard Dent took the MVP during that game after the Bears rolled over the Patriots with a final score of 46-10. This was the first title the Bears had won since 1963.
In 1987, the Denver Broncos faced the New York Giants at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California. Phil Simms, New York’s quarterback took the NFL Super Bowl MVP after leading his team to a 39-20 victory. John Elway couldn’t keep up with the 22 for 25 pass completions that Simms made.
In 1988, the Washington Redskins went to Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego to face the Denver Broncos. The MVP went to the QB again but Elway was again not chosen. Doug Williams of the Redskins received the MVP after winning 42-10.
